UK Holidays Travel lnsurance
Most of us don’t think about buying travel insurance if we make holiday plans to stay at home and take off in the UK but believe it or you may not be covered for many things and a recent survey found that most of us simply don’t bother with this type of insurance at all.
A recent survey in the daily mail showed that a massive 82% of us do not take out travel insurance if we go on holiday in the UK believing that all our health costs are covered naturally by the NHS and that if something happens we can simply go home or call a relative to help us out.
Generally of course all of that is true and in fact the higher cost of travel insurance for overseas trips is for the health cover and repatriation fees should they be required. Certainly in countries like the USA where you need a credit card just to get into hospital makes the cost sometimes extreme.
But of course many of us take internal UK flights and luggage can be lost or delayed or you may have to cancel your holiday for health reasons for yourself or a member of your family and if the worst happens and you have a death in your family you may also have to cancel the holiday to go to a funeral.
This is where travel insurance comes into play to pay for any unforseen circumstances that may occur so you can at least claim back the cost of the holiday such as travel expenses and your hotel and perhaps car hire costs. All insurance policies vary by insurer so it’s best to check the small print to see what they will cover and think about all circumstances that may see you having to cancel or postpone your holiday.
As mentioned above most of us don’t think the cost of the insurance is worth it especially these days when we want to save as much money as we can but the actual cost of UK travel insurance is very low so it’s worth checking out some of the insurance comparison websites. If you already have one of those multi destination annual insurance plans then these will probably cover you in any case but that’s also worth checking out just in case it’s only for overseas trips.
Although saying all this after searching in Google for “UK travel insurance” the giant search engine does’t appear to bring up any companies that are just offering insurance for UK trips as most of them are standard comprehensive policies for all worldwide trips for a single trip or multiple trips. What appears to be the case is you select a European policy and that includes United Kingdom cover (as there are agreements in the EU for medical cover so we assume this is not actually required). Premiums when we looked start at as little as £10 per person so there really is no excuse not to have travel insurance wherever you are taking your holidays this year.
