What’s not covered ?

Generally with any health insurance any pre-existing conditions are not covered although some may be if the condition has been treated and you re-apply under the scheme at a later date (consult with Bupa on this in the first instance). Generally also anything to do with general conditions such as aging, child birth, allergies, cosmetic or weight loss treatment are not covered. There is an exhaustive list on the Bupa website so you can see exactly what is and what is not covered by the health insurance offered.

Pricing of this plan

Because every person is different, has a different life style and live around the UK the policy quote will depend on your own circumstances so it’s wise to get online quotes either directly with Bupa or via a broker or comparison website.

When you have your quote read the policy booklet very carefully so you know what cover you and your family are receiving. With Bupa a child is taken as a separate person and is not automatically covered on a family or personal policy (where as other insurers will cover children effectively for free).

There is no medical to undertake although you will be asked questions about your lifestyle and current state of health together with your working occupation and whether you are a smoker. You can also choose various levels of excess values which can lower your monthly subscription but of course you will have to pay a fixed amount per year if you make any claims. You can be treated in an NHS hospital or a private hospital usually of your choice if that hospital has the facilities to undertake the treatment you require.

Making a claim

Bupa have made the claim process as simple as possible and it generally starts with a referral from your GP. Once you have this most of the process can be undertaken and authorised over the telephone and the paperwork is then processed and handled by Bupa. You won’t have to pay out yourself and reclaim back.
