The Aviva health insurance company has recently rebranded from the old Norwich Union group of companies and still offers in-depth health and life insurance cover. Here’s our overview and review of this business.

Aviva is the largest insurance group in the UK and has over 50 million customers worldwide and offers all types of standard and specialist insurance cover from car and travel to life and health insurance.

Aviva starts your healthy lifestyle with their branded “myhealthcounts” program which provides you with a Q score to help you understand exactly how healthy you currently are and thus ways and methods to improve it to a state that you are happy with. This is an added incentive to reduce health insurance premiums by up to 15% by managing your lifestyle better.

Their standard policy includes loads of incentives for family health insurance cover including all young children are covered for free whereas Bupa do charge for each additional child added to a policy (although they receive free cover for newborns up to the next renewal date).

Added incentives includes up to a 45% no claims discount and access to many of the main private hospitals in the UK including BMI, Nuffield, Spire and Ramsay hospitals. Also as back pain is a growing issue because we are sitting down more these days in front of computers they have an award winning “back-up” plan to get access to back experts.

Standard cover includes payment for all hospital fees, specialists fees, diagnostics tests, radiotherapy and chemotherapy as required. And as with almost all insurers you won’t be covered for pre-existing conditions, HIV/ AIDs, long term or chronic conditions, cosmestic treatment and alcohol and drug abuse. You can reduce premiums by increasing your excess, opting out of certain elements of the policy for example out-patient care or extending the time between diagnosis and treatment.
